Genesis'consultants live in the USA, Canada, Europe, LatinAmerica, and Asia and include former senior managers
and executives of banking, leasing and other financial companies. Their
expertise includes credit, sales and marketing, trade finance,
investment banking, treasury and financial markets, training and development,
compliance, financial and managerial control, and general
management.
Most
consultants work in at least two languages. All consultants are fluent
in spoken and written English.

As Managing Partner of Genesis Corporation, he has been involved in all aspects of the firm's activities, working on projects around the world.
His areas of special expertise include risk management consulting and executive training, M & A analysis, structuring and negotiation, and project finance. He has taught banking and risk management in 40 countries, in 4 languages, and for 9 years was an associate professor at the IE Business School, Spain.
Mr. Forte holds degrees from Harvard and Johns Hopkins Universities. He also studied at University of Coimbra in Portugal.
Frederick Newman is a partner in Genesis Corporation, which he joined in Madrid in 1992. Prior to that he worked 18 years in banking and finance in New York, London and Madrid with the Bank of Boston. Until 1997 he managed Genesis' European Operations.
Today, he supervises the Consulting Division. His projects include work for banks and non-bank financial firms in acquisitions and disposals, portfolio valuations and due-diligence, market studies, competitor analyses and benchmarking studies, talent searches, general management consulting, and design and implementation of risk measurement and management systems.
Mr. Newman is a graduate of Harvard College and studied business at New York University and Fordham University. He has lectured at several Madrid area graduate schools of business.
Michael Alcivar joined Genesis Corporation as Director of Performance and Process Improvement in 2003 after completing a 32 year career in international banking with Citigroup where he worked in 6 Latin American countries and 4 U.S. states.
He is a global training and development professional with expertise in design, development and delivery as well as in performance and process improvement consulting developed over 13 years as Director of Citigroup's Latin America Training & Development Center. His training and development experience is complemented by 19 years as a manager of corporate and consumer businesses, staff units and projects in the context of start-ups, growth and remedial management. He has had national and regional management responsibilities and was appointed a Citibank Senior Credit Officer in 1986.
Mr. Alcivar is a graduate of Amherst College in Political Science and has an M.B.A. from the University of Massachusetts. He also studied at the Université de Pau et des Pays de l'Adour in Pau, France, and is fluent in English, Spanish, and French.
Alexandre Moreira
Director of Marketing & Business Dev.; Brazil Market Manager
Alexandre Moreira is Director of Marketing and Business Development at Genesis Corporation. Prior to joining the firm in early 2001, Alex developed an international career in consulting, marketing and business development, having worked and lived in Spain, Hong Kong, the USA and Brazil, his native country.
His career started as a consultant for Genesis Corporation in Spain in 1990. Since then, Alex has collected a diverse experience which includes management consulting to small and medium-sized companies, business development for the Fiat Group, and marketing for a Hong Kong-based industrial conglomerate. Today, Alex oversees worldwide marketing and business development activities in Genesis, and also manages Brazil.
Alex holds a Master in Science of Management degree from Arthur D. Little School of Management, USA, and a Bachelor in Business Administration degree from Fundação Getúlio Vargas, Brazil.
Dr. Gerry E. Tompkins works with Genesis Corporation as a Learning and Performance Improvement consultant. His experience is backed by 20 years with Citigroup in the areas of training and development as well as operations and technology for the Latin American region.
Dr. Tompkins is a training development professional with expertise in performance analysis, instructional design, testing, and the development of alternative solutions including process improvement. As Business Learning Director of Citigroup's Latin America Training and Development Center, he was responsible for the development of training materials, in both English and Spanish, for classroom delivery and self study (including self-instruction workbooks and e-learning programs) covering banking concepts and products in Cash Management, Trade Services, Risk Management, Treasury, and Credit Analysis. Prior to Citigroup, he worked for IBM for 5 years, both in the U.S. and Brazil, on joint projects with government entities and universities, and for 2 years for the Pontifical Catholic University (PUC) in Rio de Janeiro where he taught in the Computer Science graduate program and managed the data processing center.
Dr. Tompkins is a graduate of the Pontifical Catholic University in Electrical Engineering and holds M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Information Systems from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He also studied Organizational Behavior at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida, and is fluent in English, Portuguese, and Spanish.
After a successful international career in banking, having lived in Chile, USA, Hong Kong, and Guatemala, Mr. Olavarría now collaborates with Genesis as senior instructor and consultant in his areas of expertise: credit risk, asset based financing, and leasing.
His practical experience is backed by several years as a senior manager for Citigroup in the Asset Based Finance and Leasing Division, where until 2003 he was the Regional Head for Citigroup's Asia Pacific Region, and was responsible for equipment finance, asset based finance, account receivables and payables financing. With Citigroup, he also occupied senior management positions for Latin America, with responsibility for developing multiple markets in the region. For 6 years prior to that, Mr. Olavarría was the President of Facto-Rent Leasing in Central America, leading the company to become the largest leasing company in the region. He has also held important posts at professional organizations, including as Chairman of the Guatemalan Leasing Association and Vice-Chairman of Felalease (Latin American Leasing Association).
Mr. Olavarría holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Chile an Naval Academy, a Master degree in Industrial Engineering and an MBA degree, both from Louisiana State University.
Rafael Viñas is a collaborating instructor of Genesis Corporation where he conducts seminars on risk management, an area in which he has developed expertise both as a banker and a management consultant.
As a banker he has held executive positions as Vice President of Banco de Chile, Multibanco Comermex, Mexico and Citibank. During his eighteen-year career at Citibank, Mr. Viñas was both a credit and a securities officer and led units in corporate banking, investment banking, mergers and acquisitions and real estate project finance with tours of duty in New York, Brazil, Mexico, South Africa and Spain.
As a consultant, Mr. Viñas has worked on all facets of risk management for financial institutions in emerging as well as developed countries. Assignments have included credit and market risk process redesign, evaluation of credit portfolios and portfolio risk and the review and assessment of risk management architectures, including credit, market and operational risk. Mr. Viñas has consulted with financial institutions in Australia, Argentina, Mexico, the United States and Uruguay.
Mr. Viñas is a graduate of Brigham Young University in Economics, Cum Laude, and has a Master´s Degree in Management from the Sloan School of Management of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Lorraine Montero joined Genesis as a senior consultant and instructor, after completing a 34-year career in international banking with Citigroup, Bank of America and CIBC World Markets.
Mrs Montero's broad experience in banking, risk management and corporate finance includes Citigroup positions as Managing Director and head of Latin America-Mexico Global Relationship Banking, Department Head for the Branded Consumer/Retail Industry and Senior Banker for the largest global clients in the Industry. She was appointed a Senior Credit officer of Citibank in 1987 and holds three NASD securities licenses.
Previously, Mrs. Montero held several management positions in the US and Latin America with the Bank of America organization, including Assistant Country Representative for Brazil and Branch Manager of subsidiary Banco Internacional. She was an active participant in the 1983 negotiations with the Brazilian government to restructure its external debt
Mrs. Montero is a graduate of Georgetown University and holds an MA from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. She is currently an instructor in leadership and management at Miami -Dade College's Center for Financial Training and has been a guest lecturer in Emerging Markets Risk at Florida International University. She is proficient in Portuguese and fluent in English and Spanish.
David Barnes is a consultant and seminar leader in global wealth management and private client investment and fiduciary products/services, where he has developed expertise over a career of more than 30 years as an executive in major financial institutions.
As an international private banker, Mr. Barnes has held executive positions as Vice President of Citibank Private Bank, Chase Manhattan Private Bank and Coutts Bank. In addition, he was an international corporate banker at Marine Midland Bank, Banco Real S.A. in Brazil and Banco Urquijo (both now Banco Santander), and was a partner in private investment ventures in New York and in Brazil, where he lived and worked for a number of years. More recently, as director of an offshore institutional clearing broker associated with the Citco Group, Mr. Barnes worked closely with Brazilian and other non-US investment firms to build cost-effective international investment services account platforms in compliance with today's global regulatory environment.
As a seminar leader and consultant, Mr. Barnes has worked with and trained private bankers at major Latin American financial institutions in client investment advisory services, asset allocation, fiduciary and estate planning as well as risk management, compliance and money-laundering issues.
Mr. Barnes is a graduate of Yale University and has an MBA degree from Columbia University. He is fluent in Portuguese and Spanish and is a visiting professor at the Brazilian Business School in São Paulo.
John Figliozzi consults and teaches for Genesis worldwide. His 32 year career at Citibank, Heller Financial and KPMG has encompassed consumer banking, asset based lending, middle market "entrepreneur" lending, and cash management products. He has lived and worked in the USA, Latin America and Europe, and has traveled and consulted extensively in the major marketplaces in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Latin America and the US. He has been a Relationship Officer, Internal Audit and Credit Reviewer, Credit Policy Head, Country and Regional Credit Manager, in addition to Chief Risk Officer – Consumer Banking. Mr. Figliozzi has the unusual distinction within Citibank of having been granted a Senior Credit Officer title in both Corporate Banking and Consumer Banking. He left Citibank in 1996 to join Heller Financial in Chicago as the worldwide Director of Credit Policy for the International Group. At KPMG, John Figliozzi brought his extensive banking expertise to bear in multiple assignments in North and Latin America.
Mr. Figliozzi has an M.B.A. degree from New York University, and a B.A.-Ed. In English Literature from Montclair State in New Jersey. He is fluent in Spanish.
Francisco Watkins has spent 39 years working in financial institutions in the US, Mexico, Switzerland and the UK. His career included various managerial and executive positions at US and European multinational banks, US community banks, Swiss private banks, US securities firms, and UK trade finance companies.
These positions were in the areas of corporate lending, credit and services to other financial institutions, retail banking, private banking, trade finance and securities trading. From 1991 to 1992 he served as member of the board of a California community bank.
For the past three years he has been President of a Florida based Registered Investment Advisor.
Mr. Watkins holds a B.A in International Relations from the University of the Americas, A.C. in Mexico, and took several graduate courses in Economics at the same university and at NYU.
As a Registered Representative at two US securities firms, he passed the required Series 7 and Series 66 exams.
He is fluent in English and Spanish, and has a working ability to read and understand French.
Donald (Don) Lawrence joined Genesis in 2013 to manage UK business development activities.
His finance career began in Citibank’s Private Wealth Management Group overseeing an international client base. A diverse Citi career led to extended tours in London as well as assignments in various parts of the Middle East and Asia in Treasury and Rates Sales/Trading. Don was later recruited by Bank of America as head EMEA Capital Markets group.
Over the last decade Don Lawrence has performed multiple roles including management consulting, capital markets and risk training, and managing change programs. He has worked with financial institutions in both the public and private sectors, corporations, and Universities. Don serves on the PRMIA (Professional Risk Manager’s International Association) steering committee; Charted Institute of Securities & Investment and the Advisory Board of Foundation for Fund Governance, Washington DC.
Don Lawrence did his post graduate works in finance at City University of New York. He is fluent in English and French, and conversational in Farsi and Spanish.
Douglas Smee has over thirty years of private and public sector international economic and financial expertise combined with management and organizational skills at the most senior level. He is now a consultant and seminar leader in evaluating and assessing country risk for businesses abroad.
In the private sector, Mr. Smee most recently was Senior Vice President and Head of Global Country Risk Management at Citigroup Inc. where he was responsible for country risk management, cross-border policy and approval of worldwide country risk limits across all Citigroup businesses. In the 1980s, he was Assistant Chief Economist (International) at the Bank of Montreal where he represented Canadian banks on the International Advisory Committees of Mexico and Brazil. In the latter committee, he was Chairman of the Economic Sub-Committee.
In the public sector, Mr. Smee was a senior official at the Department of Finance of the Government of Canada. He was Assistant Deputy Finance Minister of Financial Sector Policy as well as Assistant Deputy Finance Minister of International Trade and Finance where he was responsible for policy issues related to the G-7 summits, international financial institutions (such as IMF and the World Bank), NAFTA import negotiations and international investment. He led G-7 negotiations with Russia on rescheduling the Former Soviet Union debt. He also represented Canada on the Executive Board of the IMF in the early 1990s.
As a seminar leader and consultant, Mr. Smee has trained senior bankers at Citigroup and other financial institutions on country and franchise risks. He has consulted with the IMF on financial sector structural reforms in emerging market economies, with Citigroup Inc. on consumer bank risk management in selected foreign countries and with multinational corporations on country risk processes.
Mr. Smee is a graduate of the University of Alberta, Canada with a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance) and Master of Arts (International Economics). He also attended the University of Oxford where he pursued a Doctor of Philosophy degree in international economics.
Chittaranjan Gauba is a consultant, program designer and seminar leader in a number of areas of banking operations including risk management as well as treasury and trading functions, and extending to process improvement and performance enhancement.
Mr Gauba's association with Genesis follows over thirty years of international experience with major financial institutions, including Citigroup. His assignments with Citi included being Regional Manager for South India; Country Financial Controller; Operations and IT User Support for the Middle East & North Africa Division; and Associate Director at the bank's multinational divisional training center in Athens, Greece.
Subsequent work assignments included being Group General Manager of Oman National Insurance Company, the largest general insurance company in the Sultanate of Oman; Group Vice President - Information Management with The UB Group, one of India's largest diversified consumer-goods and services business groups; and the founding chief executive of UB Information and Consultancy Services (UBICS), the group's information systems venture. Major consulting assignment clients include Deutsche Bank; the W.J.Towell Group; PSI Data Systems; and others.
Mr Gauba, a honours graduate in Mathematics from the University of Bombay, is presently based in Vancouver, Canada.
Patrick Kedziora collaborates with Genesis as a senior consultant/instructor and spearheads Genesis' business development efforts in the U.S.
Patrick has extensive experience as a commercial banker, relationship manager, investment banker, manager of a $250 million investment fund, Chief Financial Officer of both private companies and a public company, head of business development and an arranger and financier of management led buyouts. He has held senior positions at Solomon Equities, Société Générale, and Barington Capital Group L.P. and counts amongst his previous clients: Kohlberg Kravis Roberts and T. Boone Pickens.
Mr. Kedziora has an M.B.A. in Finance from the Stern School of Business at NYU and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Political Science from New York University. He is proficient in Spanish and has native fluency in English and French.
Mr. Kedziora also serves as Chairman of New York University's Alumni Association and the Financial Executives Networking Group in South Florida, Chairman Emeritus and founder of the South Florida Technology Executives Networking Group and the founder of the Miami Chapter of Entrepreneurs Commons.
Bruce Diamond collaborates with Genesis as senior consultant and instructor in banking and finance internationally.
His successful career in banking started in 1977 with Citibank in New York City. Among his senior positions, he worked as Executive Vice President for Citigroup overseeing several areas such as Client Relationship, Credit & Risk at a Senior Credit Officer level, and Commercial and Investment Banking products. Mr. Diamond has also held positions as Director and President of Citigroup leasing companies internationally. Out of London, he covered 38 countries throughout Central and Eastern Europe, Russia, the Middle East, Africa, and India. Currently, he divides his time between New York City and São Paulo in consulting assignments.
Mr. Diamond has an MBA from University of Florida – Gainesville, and a Bachelor's Degree from New York University.
Armando de Andrade worked for 23 years with Citibank both in Brazil and the United States, where he performed several management functions in areas such as Credit, Corporate Lending, Cash Management and Training. He was also the Chief Executive of a number of Citigroup's strategic business units.
During his career Mr. De Andradde managed a multitude of challenging and complex situations, from dealing with specialized credit workouts, business turnarounds and introduction of new products, to implementation of new business units.
He left Citibank in 1993 to found and lead a start-up company in the U.S. – a call center specializing in the outsourcing of banking services. In 1999, upon the sale of that business, he acquired equity participation and became the Chief Executive Officer of a company producing a new, environmentally-friendly packaging material. He sold his stake in that business in 2007 to return to Brazil, where he became associated with Brasilpar, a leading boutique investment bank where his main focus is on corporate financial restructuring. Today he consults for Brasilpar and teaches for Genesis Corporation.
Armando de Andrade graduated in Business Administration at the University of Sao Paulo and specialized in International Business Management at the New York University.
José Manuel Fernández is a Senior Instructor with Genesis Corporation, conducting training seminars in risk management in Mexico and internationally. Prior to starting to work with Genesis in 2001, Mr. Fernández worked 26 years in banking and finance in New York and Mexico City with Citibank.
His areas of expertise include Corporate Banking, Investment Banking, Private Banking, M&A, and Privatization. Mr. Fernández was directly involved in the acquisition process of Banca Confia by Citibank, playing an important role in the post-merger integration process. Throughout his career, Mr. Fernández was a board member at several companies and professional associations in banking and finance. Today, Mr. Fernández consults and teaches for Genesis internationally.
Mr. Fernández has an MBA from the University of Colorado, USA, and a Bachelor in Business from Ibero Americana University, Mexico.
Andrew Newman collaborates with Genesis as Wealth Management consultant and instructor. He has 25 years’ experience in Wealth Management, Brokerage and Portfolio Management. Andrew is the founder and Senior Portfolio Manager at Newman Advisors LLC, a Registered Investment Advisory firm serving primarily international clients. He spent the past 15 years as a Senior Vice President/Senior Portfolio Manager at UBS. Before moving to Florida, Andrew lived in New York City where he worked at Lehman Brothers and Merrill Lynch.
Andrew also coaches top producing teams and high level executives, primarily in the financial industry. He has designed and facilitated workshops in Switzerland, the United States and South America.
Andrew earned a BA in Economics and International Relations from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He completed graduate work at the Sorbonne and the Institute of Political Science in Paris, France. Andrew has also completed the 3 year Strategic Coach Program followed by two years in the Master Coach Program, and is a certified Martha Beck Life Coach and a Kolbe Consultant.
Andrew is fluent in English, Spanish, French and Italian.
Flávio Ramos collaborates with Genesis as consultant and instructor in Risk, Audit and Controlling. He brings an 18-year international career with leading institutions such as Citi, Fortis, Motorola and Ernst & Young.
Flávio’s expertise includes the setup and realignment of internal audit units to risk based approach; the implementation of enterprise-wide risk management systems and processes; and the development of tools to mitigate fraud risk. In 2008 he coordinated a PMO team in the Santander/ABN merger covering all business areas of the two banks. At Genesis, Flávio has been consulting and teaching in projects with leading Brazilian banks.
Mr. Ramos holds a MB degree in Business Administration from IE Business School (Instituto de Empresa), Spain, and a Bachelor in Economics from UNICAMP. He is Portuguese native and fluent in English and Spanish.
Dalva Nunes works with Genesis Brazil as a senior consultant and trainer in the areas of Leadership and Organizational Development. Her experience is backed by over 20 years as an HR/T&D executive in companies such as Citibank, Credicard and Pepsico.
As a consultant, Dalva Nunes has worked around Latin America assessing training needs, managing organizational change processes, defining management systems and in the implementation of training programs in various subjects, including Leadership, Sales, Relationship Management and Management Development, among others. As large company executive, Ms. Nunes held senior positions in the areas of Training and Development and Human Resources.
Dalva Nunes graduated in Literature from Iberoamerican University, with postgraduate degree in HR from PUC and FGV. She is certified in Coaching by ICI - Integrated Coaching International and is fluent in Portuguese, Spanish and English.
Maria Luisa Ferreira de Lemos ("Malu Lemos") is an Associate Instructor for Genesis Brazil. She has over 26 years of experience in financial markets, in business and capital markets areas with institutions such as Itaú Unibanco, BM&F, IBMEC and Santander.
In the past 12 years, Malu Lemos has been dedicated exclusively to training financial institutions. Her areas of expertise include Treasury, Derivatives, Investments, Stock Markets and Financial Planning.
Malu Lemos has a degree in Business Administration from Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV) and a Master's degree in Finance from COPPEAD / UFRJ.
Victor Hugo Homrich is a Senior Instructor with Genesis
Brazil in areas ranging from Consumer through to Corporate Banking. He has
extensive experience as a senior manager in Corporate and Investment Banking,
always with direct involvement in approval processes and credit management for
corporations, banks and governments.
For eight years until 2009 he was responsible for
the deployment and management of businesses for ABN Amro Bank in the areas of
Financial Institutions and Public Sector for Latin America.
Prior to ABN, he worked for 28 years with Citibank as
manager of different business units. He was responsible for Corporate Banking in
Southern Brazil, in addition to business areas such as Middle Market, Public
Sector and Financial Institutions throughout the country. During this period,
he also performed the role of "Senior Credit Officer," the highest
level of credit delegation granted by the bank.
Today Victor Hugo is CEO of a credit cards business
as well as Financial Institution Risk Analysis Independent Committee Member.
